Shaitan: Devil in colours of darkness

Blues, greys, greens and black are the main colours used for the characters this dark film

Dev.D won her a Best Costume Designer nomination last year at a popular awards ceremony, and she has worked on Gulaal, Aamir, Boond, etc. Now designer Shubhra Gupta has been working on the styling of Shaitan, Anurag Kashyap’s latest production. According to her, each character has a specific look and so a special style, but they will all be ‘real’ and fairly typical.
Shiv Pandit, who plays a tattooed drug dealer, will wear distressed denims, vests and bracelets; Gulshan Devaiya as a college student from a wealthy family will be seen in jeans, fitted shirts, T-shirts and sporty though formal wear. Troubled US-returned Kalki Koechlin graduates from long hair and loose clothes to a more sexy short ’do atop punkish short skirts, casual frocks and lots of metal chains and kohl; Neil Bhoopalam as a rich Parsi geeky character will have crop pants, shirts slung over tees and square-framed spectacles. Kirti Kulhari is dressed in girly printed skirts and frocks while Rajeev Khandelwal segues between police uniforms and more formal jeans and dress shirts. Blues, greys, greens and black are the main colours for this dark film. Quite fitting for the name, huh!
